Today I walked through one of Vancouver Island’s few Garry Oak ecosystems. When I was in college, I had the pleasure of learning about these beautiful ecosystems. This beautiful purple flower, Camas, was eaten by the Coast Salish ancestors of the Songhees First Nation (Lekwungen). Its bulbs contain inulin- a prebiotic fibre that not only aids in digestion but can help in balancing blood sugar as well. ✨
Learning about traditional medicines was such an honour and privilege. Western herbal medicine means using local plants and herbs from the land- an honour and a privilege. Being able to immigrate here as a young child was an honour and a privilege. Because of this, I would be honoured to make my services as accessible as possible to indigenous individuals. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me about this. All herbs dispensed will be charged at a wholesale cost and my intake will be sliding scale. That being said, no one will be turned away from seeing me or receiving medicine. What I love about herbal medicine is how accessible it is and that extends to my practice as well.
